Kalameny Thermal Pool — Natural Bathing in the Liptov Region
A tip for swimming in a thermal pool in the middle of nature.
After we had our fill of the views at Dechtáre pier, our journey led us to another Liptov gem. Just a short distance away — about 15 minutes from Dechtáre and roughly 25 minutes from Demänová — lies the small village of Kalameny. And right there, at the very end of a road by the forest, hides a place that looks like it’s from another world. ✨
What is the thermal pool
It was created by an artificial borehole drilled in 2000, reaching a depth of 500 metres. Thermal water at around 33 °C rises to the surface, so people swim here year-round — even in winter when snow covers everything around. ❄️♨️
Entry fee and parking
There is no entry fee for the pool itself, but the municipality charges a parking fee, which goes toward maintaining the surroundings. It costs 5 euros per day and can only be paid online. There was even a caravan parked there. 🅿️
The water and its effects
Be prepared for the water to smell of sulphur. This is proof that it is full of minerals, calcium and magnesium, which work wonders on joints and the musculoskeletal system. 👍
Facilities on site
Right by the pool there is a wooden changing cabin and portable toilets are available too. And for those who want to warm up even more, there is even a mobile sauna for an extra fee.
Kalameny Thermal Pool
Everyone finds their own thing
Our group split up according to what each person needed at that moment. While the others happily soaked in the pool and enjoyed the natural jacuzzi, I headed off into the forest.
I’m not really a water person who could spend hours in a bath. Just a few metres away, the noise from the pool gave way to silence, the murmur of a stream and wonderful birdsong. 🐦🌲
A walk through the forest near the Kalameny thermal pool
The thermal pool is also a starting point for various hiking trails, but this time we moved on to the next part of our plans. Even that short walk through the forest was enough to recharge my energy.
Kalameny is proof that the most beautiful experiences often don’t cost hundreds of crowns — you can find them in the quiet of a forest and a single hot spring. 🌲❤️
