Jasná and Vrbické pleso — a trip to the Low Tatras

The largest natural lake in the Low Tatras surrounded by snow-capped mountains — Vrbické pleso in Jasná is a must-see stop on any Liptov trip.

Jasná and Vrbické pleso — a trip to the Low Tatras

A trip tip to a lake in the Low Tatras 🏔️🇸🇰

After a relaxing morning at the Kalameny thermal lake, we drove back to Demänová. A proper lunch at a local restaurant set us up nicely, and then we felt the pull of the mountains — heading up toward Jasná.

If you’re planning a trip from the same area as us, from our accommodation Za Rohom in Demänová, it’s a short distance to both Jasná and Vrbické pleso — about 12 kilometres (roughly 15 minutes by car) straight to the end of Demänová Valley. 🚗🌲

Jasná is stunning, but it’s also one of Slovakia’s most famous ski resorts — and the prices reflect that. One thing to know upfront: all-day parking at the central car parks in Jasná costs €20. It’s quite a lot, but think of it as paying for the best starting point for everything beautiful around you. 🏔️

Just a short walk from the car park, the first reward awaits. You’ll first come across a smaller but lovely little lake (as you can see in the photos). Following the map, we then headed uphill toward the lake called Vrbické pleso. 🌊✨

It’s the largest natural lake in the Low Tatras, formed by a glacier. It reaches a depth of up to 8 metres and is protected as a national natural monument. That glacial atmosphere was palpable at every step — the mountain peaks and the area around the cable car still had snow. The contrast of green trees, crystal-clear water and white snow was absolutely magical. 🌲❄️

The walk around the lake is easy, following a well-maintained path, so anyone can do it — children included. You can just stroll, sit on the benches and take in the view of the majestic Chopok. Above all, breathe in that fresh mountain air.

For us, Jasná and Vrbické pleso is a clear-cut great tip for a trip you shouldn’t miss when visiting Liptov. It’s beautiful there in every season. 👍🙂

What about you and Jasná? Do you know it more from skiing in the snow, or do you go there just to hike?
