A Unique Spot Where a Film Was Shot Too

A visit to the Przełom Białki nature reserve near Białka Tatrzańska — a wild mountain river between massive limestone cliffs, the Obłazowa cave with the world's oldest boomerang, and the place where the film Jánošík was filmed.

A Unique Spot Where a Film Was Shot Too

While part of our group headed off to relax in the thermal baths one last time, the rest of us drove a short way from Nowy Targ to the Przełom Białki nature reserve. 🌲

The reserve was established in 1959. It’s especially popular with rock climbers and cavers, thanks to the beloved Obłazowa cave. An interesting fact: the film Jánošík was shot right here. 🧗‍♂️

From Białka Tatrzańska it’s just a stone’s throw away — less than 4 kilometres, so you’re here in about 5 to 10 minutes by car.

This was actually our second time at this spot. Both times we came in spring, so we never had to pay for parking by the forest. Apparently a parking fee is collected in summer, so it probably depends on what time of year you visit. 😊

Once you’ve parked, all that awaits you is a short, roughly 400-metre walk on easy terrain through the forest, and you’re right at the water.

We stayed on our side of the bank, just a little way from the car park, right beneath that first enormous limestone rock called Obłazowa. 🪨

The second rock, Kramnica, rises directly opposite on the other bank. Between them flows the stunning wild mountain river Białka, full of beautiful pale, smooth stones. The water level did seem a bit lower than last time. 🌊

On the way down to the river we passed the famous Obłazowa cave. Did you know it’s a world-class rarity? Archaeologists discovered the world’s oldest boomerang there, carved from a mammoth tusk! 🪃 It’s said to be over 40,000 years old.

Under normal conditions, the view of the Tatra Mountains from here is absolutely breathtaking — postcard perfect.

This time around, though, thick fog blocked the view entirely. Even so, it was a beautiful full stop to our trip and our holiday.

If you’re looking for a place for a lovely walk where you can sit by a wild river beneath a towering rock face, this is a spot you simply can’t miss. 🙂🪨🌲
